How to Get Started With Yoga

People find so many barriers that keep them from trying yoga! I find most of these barriers are simply misconceptions. Let’s talk about what you really need to get started doing yoga (and it’s not much).

A Place To Practice

This is pretty obvious, but if you’re not planning to take a class at a studio, you’ll need to create your own peaceful spot to practice. I have always practiced on a bedroom or living room floor. I had a neighbor once who would take her mat to a nearby park. Find a place that’s quiet and without a lot of distractions.

But remember: there are always distractions. Yoga just helps us deal with them better. We can’t let barking dogs ruin our practice!

A Yoga Mat

You can get a yoga mat at literally any Wal-Mart in the U.S., I’m pretty sure. All you need is a sticky mat, which is a non-slip mat. It doesn’t need to be super expensive or fancy. In time, you’ll discover there are so many different kinds now. Some are thicker than others, some are round, and some have pretty designs. You’ll find what you like as you practice.
